The cute little town of Patate, known for their wine. When we tried to go and buy said wine, we found out it was boxed...and flavored like fruits, so we passed.
This is the hotel we stayed in for two nights, it was so gorgeous, surrounded by mountains (see below) and each room was really nice with a fireplace and everything. I could have stayed there for weeks.

This is a really old Hacienda we visited, I think around 300 some years old. Its now a hotel but it used to be sort of a plantation for various things, roses being one of them.

I bought this hammock...for $12!! Its sweet and don´t worry ladies of the Russian house, it will be in place either inside or outside next year!

Guards, guarding the presidents house, but he doesn´t live there. The president is a pretty touchy subject here in Ecuador. They´ve had about 10 presidents in the last 12 or so years. When they don´t like the president anymore, he´s gone. The current president has been in office for about 7 months, which is apparently pretty good. My host family tends to refer to him as a dictator though, so I´m not sure that will be good. We will see...

Ecuador is known for its beautiful flowers. It´s one of their main exports and they are really cheap here, a dozen of gorgeous roses = $2!

This is the market in Otavalo. I think I wrote about it, we stopped there on a saturday and I wanted to buy everything.

Here they are dying wool with a paste found in a cactus. The paste goes through a process of drying and mixing with water and then it boils with the fabric and turns it purple/red, very pretty.
This is our whole group straddling the Equator!Well I guess that´s all I have for now. Hope you enjoyed the picture tour! Hopefully if it ever stops raining I can get some pictures of Cuenca, but so far it´s rained everyday here and it´s cold so we don´t do much. Although since this is our first weekend in the city, we will probably go out tonight and check out the nightlife!
I hope you all are doing well and I miss you all! Let me know how you´re doing!
Love and miss you,
Linds

Wow, those pictures are much better than I was expecting, even though you've been telling me how beautiful it is for days. Looks like the new camera is working out as well. Hope you have fun at the club tonight, be safe.
love always

Lindsey,
Nice pictures! It is so beautiful! I would be in agreement with you about scooping up the guinea pigs. I can't wait to see pictures of where you are staying and of your host family. You know you can imagine things as you write your story-it is so great to put a picture with it to complete it! I have Ian today, Amy leaves for her 2 week guard duty this morning. We have city wide garage sales today-so Ian is going to experience that. We will see if Grammy Sandy can find him more clothes and toys. You didn't get to see him at Derek's anniversary. His middle name is named after Derek's middle name. He is a pretty special baby-his 9 1/2 months and quite a chunker! How is everything going with your host family. Has your host father returned from New York yet? How is the puppy? Don't they just warm your heart? You take care honey-we love you. I know your Mom is right beside you having a wonderful time-maybe Derek isn't far behind her-he'd be like this is cool Linds (not in those words because that is kinda corny:) God Bless and Keep you Safe!
Love,
Sandy, Dale, Cassie DTD
those pictures are wonderful. I can't believe how much you have seen and experienced already. Oh and as far as the hammock goes... I think it should go inside the house because if anything happened to it outside that would be really really sad. Ok well I love you lots.

actually i think the pictures suck............jk dude they're awesome; nice work and thanks tons and bunches for sharing! to be honest, a hand full of them look a lot like some of the pictures i took while hiking through the Usumbara Mountains in Tanzania...neato connection huh?! i'm becoming more and more convinced that i seriously need to check this place out!
anywho, so glad to hear that you're continuing to enjoy yourself, what with all the pretty flowers, kick ace host digs/familia, and guinea pigs. keep on keepin on snoop, and live the dream!
peace and love,
boozie
Saludos Linds!
He disfrutado ver tus fotos; son incredibles! Quiero ver mas (especialmente de tu familia, me parecen muy amables). No puedo creer que estas alli; tan lejos en la mitad del mundo! Todo esta bien aqui en Mpls; espero estar en Ecuador contigo! Me parece bonitisimo! Disfruta chica!
Un besito,
Meggie
Lindsface! So I just tried leaving a comment and it got deleted...lame! Oh well, so I just think your pics are great! Beautiful and artistic! I'm pumped about the hammock, but I think it should go outside while the weather's nice...come on Megs...
Also, is Zach's new nickname for you "snoop"? Because I like it!
I can't wait to hear more!!! Love you bunches of oats (that is probs my fave cereal!)
hi dear! your pics look amazing! i would vote with eda on keeping the hammock outside for a while, it looks sweet! just had to tell you i had this crazy dream that you came back for a weekend because you saved up some money and you had died your hair like neon neon blue and right away you asked if you could sleep in the dog room. but then we were at school and i was doing a dance with my new swimming suit that i bought at old navy and you were hiding and then kevin was there running some sort of race and he was really hairy, it was nuts...haha anyway thought it was funny and i hope you haven't dyed your beautiful hair :) love and miss you!
Hey Lindsey,
Your photos are just amazing! It sounds like you are having an awesome time. I am so glad to hear you are with your family. They sound like great people. And, a cottage all to yourself....how great is that? To make it perfect, just add the puppy. Thanks for taking the time to keep us all updated. It's fun to know what you are doing. Have lots of fun, stay safe. We miss you (and envy you).
Love, Cy and Linda
P.S. Obie also sends his love!
Hopefully ladies that don't live in the Russian house (but will be there often) are able to partake in the hammock activities as well, inside or out.
:)

Hi Sweet Niece,
I just typed a long letter and couldn't remember my password so all my news is floating somewhere in Cyperspace right now.
It is past the bewitching hour so will just tuck you in with a hug and kiss and rewrite that long letter tomorrow.
Much love and God's blessings,
Auntie Judy
